Alex Vissia dishes on Young Love

Young love is often heady, reckless and, subsequently, excruciating painful when it doesn’t work out.

Singer-songwriter Alex Vissia’s new folk-blues EP, Young Love, tends to reflect on the ouchier side — communication breakdowns, heavy hearts and the need to move on.

The six-song collection features three originals, such as the fiery title track and the regret-filled Room To Grow,  plus three covers — including a bluesy version of Gordon Lightfoot’s Sundown and a melted rendition of Martha and the Vandellas’ snappy 1963 hit, Heat Wave.

Vissia, who is often compared to Serena Ryder and Brandi Carlyle, will release Young Love on Friday, May 24 at Fiddlers Roost, 8906 99th St.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Hello, Doctor!, which happen to be the stage name of folk musician Emily Bachynski, will open. Tickets are $15 plus service charges at yeglive.ca.
