Edmonton’s former poet laureate Cadence Weapon has just fired off a new track, When It’s Real, with extra ammunition provided by soul singer Jarrell Perry.
These days, the expat rapper spends much of his time in Montreal, but he was hangin’ around his hometown for part of May, opening for Shout Out Out Out Out on the Red Bull Tour Bus in Churchill Square, DJing at The Bower, and recording some tracks.
“Edmonton is geographically unique and that determines how we interact with each other,” Cadence Weapon recently told Noisey. “It’s split up by the North Saskatchewan River and when it’s winter, you might not really see people on one side for awhile. I have lots of memories of walking for long distances under sketchy circumstances.”
