This just in, Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli talked to Gene Principe on Sportsnet360, Chiarelli with an assessment of his team to date and his own work this summer past summer: “I’d like to kind of reverse our shot differential but I see us breaking out well, I see us getting a neutral zone forecheck, I see us getting the little things you have to focus on. I see a stable D. Those are things that make a manager happy, and a 6-and-1 record obviously does too. The little things that make a manger happy that you try and fix over the summer, you see in front of you being fixed.”
My take
- When a GM has his team off on a hot start to a season most fans are going to nod along with what he has to say.
- I’d be more worried about the Oil’s shot differential if Edmonton wasn’t keeping even or ahead when it comes to Grade A scoring chances, and the Oil are doing just that.
- The main difference in this line-up? I’m not seeing any weak link players anywhere right now in the roster, no one being asked to take on a job he can’t handle. That’s a massive change, even from last year, so credit to Chiarelli for that.
