An Edmonton mother has been charged in the death of her five-year-old daughter.
Lauren Lafleche, 29, faces charges of second-degree murder and assault with a weapon in connection to the death of her daughter, Shalaina Arcand.
An emergency medical services crew called police for assistance at an address near 116 Avenue and 124 Street on Oct. 12, 2015, where paramedics were already treating Shalaina for apparent head injuries.
She died four days later in hospital.
The medical examiner’s office concluded she died as a result of head trauma.
A funeral for Shalaina was held Oct. 22, 2015. She was buried in the Alexander First Nation Cemetery just north of Edmonton.
