Slippery conditions may have been a factor in a fatal Tuesday morning collision northwest of Morinville.

RCMP said emergency crews were called to a two-vehicle crash about 9:45 a.m. on Highway 44, about 23 km northwest of Morinville.

Investigators believe the female driver and sole occupant of the southbound pickup lost control and crossed into the northbound lane where her vehicle was struck by a northbound pickup.

The woman driving the southbound truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the other truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the collision, but police noted that road conditions were icy at the time.

Morinville is about 35 km north of Edmonton.
