Death is about to descend on Edmonton.
The Detroit trio will perform Saturday, April 20 at The Pawn Shop. Tickets are $20 plus service charges at yeglive.ca. A film about the underrated ‘70s punk pioneers, A Band Called Death: The Documentary, will screen at The Metro Cinema earlier in the afternoon.
The band of African-American brothers, Bobby, Dannis and David Hackney, recorded several tunes, including Politicians In My Eyes, before killing Death. (Some dude — Clive Davis — wanted the brothers to change the band’s name. They refused.)
More than 30 years later, those tunes were released on Drag City as … For The Whole World To See and two of the Hackneys are finally enjoying some of the fruits of their visionary talents. Sadly, David died in 2000.
