Two Edmonton drug stores were targeted early Tuesday in the latest attempts by thieves to steal ATMs in the city.
Both unsuccessful break-ins happened around 5:45 a.m., an Edmonton police spokesman said.
One of the businesses was in the Granville neighbourhood near Granville Road and Guardian Road; the other was in the Empire Park neighbourhood near 51 Avenue and 111 Street.
Security footage of the incidents was being reviewed by police, who believe the attempted smash-and-grabs may be connected.
There have been five ATM-related incidents in the city since March 7, including one in which two male suspects tried to steal an ATM from a hotel near 105 Avenue and 111 Street.
In a separate incident at a hotel near 53 Avenue and Calgary Trail on March 11, two male suspects broke into the hotel’s games room, stole an ATM and loaded it onto a Dodge Ram pickup.
Police were also investigating the theft of cash from an ATM at a hotel near 76 Avenue and 45 Street last Wednesday.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or submit anonymous information to Crime Stoppers.
