Celtic music priestess Loreena McKennitt will close this year’s Edmonton Folk Music Festival on Sunday, Aug. 11.
Her publicist leaked the news as part of a mini-tour announcement, which also includes stops in Stratford, Ont., Calgary and Vancouver. “Additional dates may be added,” according to a news release.
This will be McKennitt’s fourth appearance at the Folk Fest. Her last was in 2005, though she played the Jube in 2007. Since then, the singer/harpist/pianist/accordionist has released five albums and picked up two Grammy nominations.
McKennitt is the latest Folk Fest name to be revealed. Previous leaks include alt-country siren Neko Case, indie-folkies The Head and the Heart AND UPDATE: Canadian activist Bruce Cockburn.
Passes will go on sale Saturday, June 1.
