Edmonton’s radio dial might be overcrowded, but CJSR 88.5 FM still manages to survive.
The listener-funded, volunteer-driven community station is celebrating its 30th anniversary on Tuesday, Jan. 7 — by broadcasting from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at City Hall. (A nice change from its usual HQ — in the basement of the Students’ Union Building on the University of Alberta campus.)
Listeners are invited to stop by City Hall …. or if you can’t make it, tune in to festivities via CJSR’s site. Unlike most of the city’s FM stations, 88.5 FM isn’t restricted to one format — you’ll hear shows dedicated to jazz, hip-hop, punk, metal, house, and music/news from Poland, Ethiopia, Nepal and Azerbaijan, to name but a few.
