Saturday morning at 11:30 a new bar opens its doors at 10713 124 St. It’s called Daravara, the lead a’s pronounced like those in ‘darling.’
Designed by Christian Smith Design Build, the look is decidedly postmodern collage, from red leather benches to the industrial ceiling lights, reminiscent of old-school Star Trek transporter pads. Beam me up, Irish!
They’re programmable colour-wise, meaning the mood will be tastefully malleable. It’s a cool idea.
The new spot is owned and run by the Empress‘ Sue Kiernan and Monty Worobec along with chef Shane Loiselle (Dad-E-O, Zinc, Hotel Mac’s Harvest Room), and will be rolling out its menu in the coming months, including weekend brunches.
Named after Lough Derravaragh near where Irish Sue was raised, the Jameson whiskey bottles for lights hint at the vibe they’re chasing, and there’s a stage and penalty-box DJ booth for those who like to rock. On staff pouring drinks, members of Edmonton’s music scene from the Switches and Free Judges.
