Edmonton-based Stantec has announced plans to acquire JBR Environmental Consultants of Salt Lake City. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The deal is expected to close in May.

JBR, a 140-employee firm founded in 1985, operates 12 offices in the western U.S. It focuses on the manufacturing, oil and gas, mining and power generation and transmission sectors.

“JBR shares our client-focused, relationship-driven culture and has considerable large-scale project experience,” says Bob Gomes, Stantec’s CEO, in a release.

“Their talented team members will help us continue to grow our environmental service capabilities across the western United States.”

JBR’s services include baseline environmental studies, air monitoring and testing, permitting and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assistance, site investigation and remediation services, and environmental compliance assistance.

Stantec’s 13,000 employees currently include more than 5,000 staff at 125 offices in the U.S. In early afternoon trading Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Stantec’s shares are down 47 cents apiece to $64.58 on light volume of about 27,000 shares.
