At least six YEG-bred acts have signed to Canadian (or American) record labels over the last three months:
* Lo-fi indie-rocker Calvin Love, a former Edmonton Music Prize finalist, joined the roster of Toronto’s Arts & Crafts, home to Dan Mangan + Blacksmith, Hayden, and Tobias Jesso Jr.
Love’s first album for the label is due later this year. Listen to his latest track, Daydream, via soundcloud.com/artsandcrafts.
* Folk punks Fire Next Time and psychobilly rockers Raygun Cowboys landed deals with Montreal’s Stomp Records. Both bands will release albums in May.
* Psychedelic rocker Michael Rault, who now lives in Toronto, was added to the menu of Burger Records. The California label will re-release his album, Living Daylight, on May 5. (The record was initially released on Pirates Blend in Canada last June.) Suckcess is the first single.
* And, as previously mentioned in this space … Artisan Loyalist signed to New York’s Sky Council while Faith Healer joined Vancouver’s Mint Records.
Artisan Loyalist, led by Rob Batke, will release its electro-pop debut, Lonely Ghost, on Feb. 24. Faith Healer, also known as Jessica Jalbert, will launch her psych-rock debut, Cosmic Troubles, on March 31.
