stereoscopes, words – fish
Even though they’re the opposite of conceptual art (and have historically been used to keep us homies down), I’m a big fan of monuments.
Being a relatively new city, Edmonton leans away from the “white guys on horses” thing, and we’re rich with idols of pioneers, a jazz musician and even a chap eating a hamburger.
Our city’s unofficial sculptor in residence was John Weaver (1920 – 2012), an Anaconda, Montana-born master of bronze most famous locally for the 1989 Gretzky statue, seen here in 3D – the ex-boyfriend we can never get over.
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago trained artist created a number of our famous works, and I’ve made stereoscopic images of some of them, like 1970′s Pronghorn Antelopes from the Royal Museum, 1971′s Edmonton Traders set behind the Milner Library, and the title image, 2000′s Madonna of the Wheat.
Throw on your 3D glasses and enjoy!
