Edmonton’s synth-pop duo and global music sensations Purity Ring will play a free show on Saturday, June 13 in the downtown square.
Another local act, Born Gold, and Calgary-bred Braids will also perform.
The show, sponsored by Red Bull, will start at 7 p.m.
“As a city it has pretty limited venues, and I think that is one of the reasons why many artists skip over Edmonton,” Purity Ring’s Corin Roddick tells RedBull.com. “It doesn’t really have many spaces that can accommodate different types of shows … We wanted to plan something a little bit special and tried to think about what some possibilities could be.
Fans who RSVP will receive free remixes of two Purity Ring songs — Dust Hymn by Comaduster and Bodyache by Faunts, both from Edmonton.
Purity Ring, featuring Roddick and Megan James, released their second album, Another Eternity, in March.
The two are in the middle of a 44-date world tour, earning rave reviews for what altsounds.com calls a “memorable” and “mystical” performance, featuring lanterns and florescent lights.
“Throughout the night, James disappears between the rope lights dangling from the ceiling and Roddick only becomes visible when the glow of a lantern radiates against him,” reads a recap of Purity Ring’s show in Bristol, England. “At one point James climbs towards the ceiling to strike a huge Moon like object that illuminates her entire body, all of which only adds to the celestial appearance of tonight’s experience.”
