* P.O.D. is still around? You bet yer life! In fact, the alt-metal band just released their 10th album, The Awakening, on Aug. 21. Sonny Sandoval and his pals will perform Tuesday, Sept. 15 at The Ranch Roadhouse. (They were supposed to play Tail Creek this year, but the festival was cancelled.) * River Cree is starting to fill its fall schedule, which will also see the opening of a new temporary venue sometime in October. Country star George Canyon will perform Thursday, Oct. 22, rockers Finger Eleven will play Friday, Oct. 23, and comedian/former late night TV host Craig Ferguson will deliver the laughs on Nov. 4. * Former Canadian Idol judge and ’80s rocker Sass Jordan will headline an intimate benefit concert for the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts on Friday, Oct. 23. Tickets are $130 (including service charges) through Tix on the Square. (A wine and appetizer reception is also included.) In previous years, such national luminaries as Carol Pope and Jane Siberry have played for the Nina, which works with artists with developmental disabilities.
* If you’re in the mood for more CanCon nostalgia, a new theatrical rockumentary celebrating the country’s musical legacy will make a stop on Nov. 8 at the Jubilee Auditorium. OH CANADA What A Feeling!, produced by Calgary promoter Jeff Parry, features music by the likes of Gordon Lightfoot, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Paul Anka, and k.d. lang. (In other words, don’t expect to hear Drake, The Weeknd, or even Nickelback.) Tickets are $63.50, $73.50 and $83.50 (including service charges) at Ticketmaster. On sale: Saturday, Aug. 29.
