Janet Jackson kicked off her Unbreakable World Tour on Monday at Rogers Arena in Vancouver. She performs Friday, Sept. 4 at Rexall Place — her first show in Edmonton since 1990. Here’s what we might expect, but of course, things can change from show to show:
She performs 32 songs, including four new ones: No Sleeep and three previously unreleased tracks from her next album, Unbreakable. The show opener, reportedly titled Burn It Up, featured prerecorded raps courtesy of Missy Elliott, while Should’ve Known Better was “a ballad that marched its way toward an anthem, part U2 and part trance music,” writes Jon Pareles of New York Times.
Janet isn’t afraid to take a stand on Alberta’s controversial energy sector. As she performed Should’ve Known Better, “the video screens showed photographs of the poor and homeless, as well as a shot with a Canadian message, with a protester’s sign addressing the country’s prime minister, Stephen Harper: ‘Harper: No Tar Sands Pipelines,’ according to the NY Times.
Sherwood Park’s Taylor Hatala, 12, is one of Janet’s dancers. Read more about the rising young star here.
Tickets are still available to Janet’s Edmo show — via Ticketmaster or resale sites. “The average secondary market price for Janet Jackson tickets on TiqIQ is now $191.67 (US),” according to Forbes.
For her upcoming date at Rexall Place, you can get resale tickets for seats in the 200s for as low as $17 (US) or about $23 Canadian, plus service charges. NOTE: Face-value tickets for those seats range from $29 to $59 Canadian plus service charges on Ticketmaster. As of Wednesday morning, the only ones left in the 200s seemed to be the $59 seats.
