Ex-capades: More than a taste of Sean Nicholas Savage

Prolific should be Edmonton native Sean Nicholas Savage’s middle name.

The offbeat popster, who now lives in Montreal, has released at least six solo albums since 2009 — each available via Bandcamp or his label, Arbutus Records.

No wonder he decided to take a bit of a breather and get some of his friends to cover his tunes. A Taste of Savage: His Pupils Sing His Music features 17 tracks — recorded by artists across North America, including two of his pals in Edmonton. Renny Wilson goes calypso on Like A Ghost Is White while Calvin Love offers a sparser synth-pop version of Chin Chin.

Mac De Marco, also part of the 780’s takeover of Montreal, contributed a lower-fi rendition of Bye Bye Bye. Stream or download a free copy of A Taste of Savage via arbutusrecords.com.

Fans can also pre-order his next album, Other Life, due April 30. Listen to the first track, Lonely Woman, a soft and sublime R&B jam:

Savage will open for label mate/electronic artist Doldrums on Friday, March 29 at Wunderbar. Tickets are $10 plus service charges at yeglive.ca.

Agor, half of Blue Hawaii (another Arbutus act), and Edmonton’s Ghibli will also perform. The latter just released his third album of YouTube samples, Clubs, now available via Bandcamp:
