A 33-year-old Edmonton man is facing 21 charges following a lengthy standoff with police.
Among the charges filed against Matthew Brogden are break and enter, uttering threats, unlawful confinement and several firearms-related charges.
Brogden was taken into custody Sunday evening after several hours of negotiations with police at a north-side home near 117th Avenue and 89th Street.
Officers initially responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a man wielding a gun had broken into the home.
Two people fled from the house a short time later, but the armed suspect refused to leave, police said. A shot was fired from a window on the third floor around 1 p.m., striking a nearby tree.
After the suspect surrendered about 7:20 p.m., police said they found a 12-gauge shotgun and a rifle, along with several rounds of ammunition, inside the home.
Police said they do not believe the home was randomly targeted.
