The #MeToo Movement has been gathering momentum since crashing onto social media in October 2017 inspired by the women who spoke out about American film producer Harvey Weinstein’s predatory behaviour.
The New York Times published a story detailing decades of allegations of sexual harassment against Weinstein in early October with actresses Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd among the first women who came forward. Since then the Weinstein scandal has prompted others to come forward with accusations of sexual misconduct against many other high-profile media personalities, including former House of Cards star Kevin Spacey, former Today morning co-host Matt Lauer and former CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose.
These issues are local too, and Edmonton Journal opinion page editor Bill Mah thinks it is high time men start to shape up, improve how they interact with women in their lives and speak up when other men behave badly.
