For the last four years, ATB Financial has sponsored an annual All-Albertan Songwriting Competition. Edmonton’s Cantoo entered this year’s contest, but didn’t win.
Calgary rapper Transit took home the $10,000 grand prize, with Jr. Gone Wild‘s Steve Loree finishing second, and 100 Mile House placing third. (Charlotte Command of Spruce Grove’s The Command Sisters was also a finalist.) Listen to their tracks via ATB’s site.
Back to Cantoo. The psych-rockers just released their entry, Alberta Window, as part of a split single with Kinsella Recordings colleague Brock Tyler. Both of their tunes are ideal for trying to remember what summer feels like on a cold winter day in Edmonton:
